Press Release: Grad CareerFestival designed to help unemployed Grads land jobs quickly

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                                                       Press Release

Assegid Habtewold is a Featured Presenter in the Grad CareerFestival Designed to Help Unemployed Grads Land Jobs Quicker!

Free Grad Career/Festival scheduled for June 26th-29th from 11 am – 7 pm daily (EST) seeks to help college grads land a job 2.4 months quicker! 36 hours of career advice!

Silver Spring, MD, May 14, 2018 (Success Pathways Press) With nearly two million students graduating from college this summer, it’s not surprising that it will take the average graduate 7.4 months to find employment.   While some of that time is a result of the economy not being able to absorb so many graduates at one time, much of it is a result of the fact that college grads simply do not know how to look for a job!

The Grad CareerFestival is designed to give graduates the fundamental skills they will need in their first professional job search. The massive four-day event will introduce graduates to 36 of the nation’s top career authors and a dozen career coaches, hiring managers, and career experts who will offer strategies on how to launch and lead successful careers. The event has been organized into four tracks:

  • Career Management
  • Job Search
  • Soft Skills
  • Post-Graduation

According to Assegid Habtewold, author of Soft Skills That Make or Break Your Success, and a featured presenter in the Grad CareerFestival:

“Research by the National Association of Colleges and Employers has shown nearly 61 percent of graduating seniors either NEVER go to the career center or will only visit once or twice. It’s no wonder then that the average grad thinks the proper way to look for a job is to load their resume onto 100 websites and wait for someone to contact them!   We know, given the right knowledge and skills we can help grads find jobs quicker!”

Each author is offering three tips based on their niche area of expertise. Graduates will learn relevant, contemporary strategies to create an elevator pitch, build their online brand, use social media to land a job, as well as learn traditional networking, resume, interviewing, and job search techniques. Authors will share the importance of creating a career plan, managing their career, and staying current on job search strategies.   The authors will give a 25-30 minute presentation on their area of expertise and then take 10-15 minutes of questions.

Time has been set aside to introduce graduates to innovative online career tools designed to improve their resumes, as well as their interviewing, networking and job search skills. Students and grads will also hear from experts who will give insights how to refinance student loans, manage their credit score, and their personal finances.

According to Assegid Habtewold,

“I’m concerned that college graduates are not receiving the knowledge and skills they will need for the dozen job searches they are expected to have by the time they turn 38 years old.   We are excited about the possibilities of putting thousands of dollars in the pockets of graduates by giving them simple insights on how they can not only find a job quicker but help them launch and lead successful careers!”

The cost to participate in all 36 hours of live career presentations is $67. However, students and graduates that register using the code – Habtewold – will get free access to the four-day event. It’s Assegid Habtewold’s graduation gift to graduates!

Parents, guardians, friends, or extended families are encouraged to share this opportunity with the graduate(s) they know!

Students and graduates can register at:

Participation is limited.

Why you should attend this coming Thursday’s workshop

This coming Thursday, February 15, 2018, @ 6: 30 pm at Marriott Marquis Washington DC, I’m going to facilitate a 2-hour workshop on the theme: Effective Communication Skills. Here are two strong reasons why you need to attend this workshop (or recommend someone) if you’re in the DC metro area.

1. The organizers. Your Ethiopian Professionals Network, known as YEP, is one of the most dynamic organizations that I personally know. I don’t usually endorse an organization just for the sake of it. I facilitated a workshop for the leadership team in 2012 or 2013 on mission, vision, branding, teamwork, and so on. I was so proud as an Ethiopian by their passion, unity of purpose, clarity, and professionalism of these young leaders. Don’t just believe my words. Because of their outstanding leadership, the organization has been growing exponentially. They have over five thousand members. Its members are diverse in profession, age group, gender, ethnicity, religion, and so on. Whether you’re new to the US or have been here for years, if your desire is to grow professionally, this is a group you have to join. You cannot grow and continue to succeed solo and without the network and support of like-minded professionals. Thus, use this opportunity to meet the leadership, its volunteers, and members. For more, check out their website: http://yepnetworks.org/

2. The theme, communication. One of my favorite motivational speakers- Les Brown said, “Communication is the number one tool to succeed in any endeavor.” Whether you are looking for a job, improve your relationships, advance on the corporate ladder, grow your business, serve and lead your community with excellence, you cannot do it without effective communication skills. You can have off the chart credential, out of this world talent and skills, and the zeal to serve, without communicating effectively, however, they are almost worthless. This is especially important to our community. Personal and professional developments are treated casually. I’ve met many talented Ethiopian professionals who overstayed in one position for years, not because they don’t have the qualification, experience, and drive; it’s due to the lack of certain soft skills like communication. I know many of you work hard and desire to succeed but hanging out with people from your profession alone is not enough. Reading textbooks of your profession alone isn’t sufficient to grow and advance in what you do. You need to invest in your personal and professional developments proactively. We need to incorporate this element in our culture. As a community, we need to develop personally and professionally constantly if our desire is to succeed individually and collectively. There is no shortcut. That was how other communities advanced, and enjoying prosperity and civilization- they developed the human potential of their people. By the way, government agencies, major corporations, and nonprofit organizations in the US that I serve as a facilitator pay thousands of dollars to arrange this kind of workshops for their staff, supervisors, managers, and executives. Now, YEP brought this to you for free. You shouldn’t miss this opportunity. If your desire is to go to the next level and continue advancing in what you do, you need to sharpen your communication ability. And, this engaging and interactive workshop empowers you to go to the next height in your communication skills. The launch of Facebook Live for immigrants on Soft Skills

If you’re a leader, manager, or a supervisor or even a mere team member in any field, and if you’ve not read the little book ‘The One Minute Manager’, you should do it right away. “With more than two million hardcover copies in print, The One Minute Manager ranks as one of the most successful management books ever published.”

That being said, my goal here and right now is not to promote this book. I thought to share with you what the author, who is recognized as a management and leadership guru worldwide, Ken Blanchard said about Jesus. He wrote, “Everything I had ever taught or written about effective leadership during the past thirty-five years, Jesus did to perfection, beyond my ability to portray or describe. I realized that Christians have more in Jesus than just a spiritual leader; we have a practical and effective leadership model for all organizations, for all people, for all situations.” I conquer!

That is why based on my book entitled ‘Soft Skills That Make or Break Your Success’, I will use Jesus as a role model and show you, in my upcoming Facebook live chats, how the 12 soft skills recognized in the book allowed Jesus to succeed in His earthly ministry more than 2000 years ago. Those of you who are interested to read the book, which is written for anyone regardless of your religious affiliation and based on a case study in one of the leading research organizations, is available on Amazon.

However, as a way of giving back to the continent I came from, Africa and my own fellow Habesha leaders, professionals, and business owners who understand English, I’ll show you how Jesus, other Biblical characters, and past and contemporary leaders from the corporate world have had these soft skills that contributed to their outstanding success.

I’ll share with you insights, stories, and most importantly, tools that can help you take your already existing soft skills to the next height. This is especially transformational to the immigrant community in the Diaspora. Your talents, gifts, intellect, hard work, and so on aren’t enough to succeed in the West. You need to develop the 12 soft skills that make or break your success in the new culture you live and work.

Remember, I wrote this book based on my experience as a trainer for some government agencies, major corporations, and non-profit organizations. These organizations pay thousands of dollars to offer workshops to their leaders, managers, supervisors, and team members on these themes. Thus, don’t miss this opportunity. It’s free.

I’ll post more updates on my facebook account before the launch of this live chat. In the meantime, I’d like to hear your suggestions. I also encourage you to share this good news with the people you know who may benefit from this program.

Thomas Edison attained purpose-oriented greatness (excerpt)

…Think about those great ones you admire. Write down the names of five of your great ones. If you take time and reflect, you could be able to find out, at least, two things in common. They:

  • Discovered their unique purpose, and
  • Willing to die for the purpose they discovered.

Let me quickly give you some diverse examples of great ones who attained purpose-oriented greatness.

2. Thomas Edison

Thomas Edison is a household name. He is known around the world for his invention of the light bulb. “Everyone agrees that he [Thomas Edison] was the greatest inventive genius who ever lived.”[i] Of course, including a patent for his Incandescing Electric Lamp, Edison held “more than 1, 000 patents for his inventions.”[ii]

Unlike Moses, Edison never claimed that God sent him to light up the world nor did he publicly declare that it was his unique purpose. Nonetheless, he had a sense of mission. While humanity was satisfied with the daylight of the sun during the daytime, and the moonlight at night, Edison burdened to brighten the world. More than any of his other inventions, Edison took the light bulb seriously as if his life was depended on it. He didn’t give up even if he failed over 1, 000 times.

Edison’s greatness was based on his invention of the light bulb. He went all-in. Repetitive failures didn’t stop him. He gave it his best. He didn’t quit until he brought the modern light bulb to the world. He achieved a purpose-oriented greatness and left a legacy that outlived him…

Moses attained purpose-oriented greatness (excerpt)

…Think about those great ones you admire. Write down the names of five of your great ones. If you take time and reflect, you could be able to find out, at least, two things in common. They:

  • Discovered their unique purpose, and
  • Willing to die for the purpose they discovered.

Let me quickly give you some diverse examples of great ones who attained purpose-oriented greatness.

  1. Moses

Moses is the greatest prophet who ever lived. “Probably no person in history has been so widely admired as the great Hebrew prophet Moses.”[i] He is popular among Jews, Christians, and Muslims around the world. For that matter, the founder of Islam, Muhammad “recognized Moses as a true prophet.”[ii]

He was supposed to die the moment he took his first breath. Pharaoh issued a fatal decree. Pharaoh ordered: “Every Hebrew boy that is born you must throw into the Nile, but let every girl live.” (Exodus 1: 22)

His mother concealed him for three months, but finally, she couldn’t hide him any longer. He was weaned prematurely and thrown into a river full of deadly beasts. The daughter of Pharaoh found him and adopted him as her own son. He lived in the palace and was groomed as a prince. Unbeknownst to them, they equipped him to handle his future purpose (Exodus 2:1-25).

When he was forty, he sensed his purpose of delivering his fellow Israelites from bondage. He actually took action toward that end. He killed an Egyptian who mistreated a fellow Hebrew (Exodus 2: 12). You know the rest of the story. What he had done came out in the open. He had to flee and spend the next forty years in the wilderness.

When he was still in the desert and tending sheep, at the age of eighty, Moses was sent to deliver the Israelites from bondage. “So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.” (Exodus 3: 10) This was his unique purpose.

Moses was committed to his purpose. He was willing to die for it. He confronted the leader of the then superpower country and demanded the release of Israelites. Since he discovered his purpose and demonstrated unwavering commitment to pursue it, Moses attained a purpose-oriented greatness. As a result, he became the greatest deliverer in history and left a legacy…

Is your organization purpose-oriented? Check it out (excerpt)

Before you read the excerpt below about some of the key features of Purpose-oriented organizations and whether your organization is purpose-oriented, I encourage you to quickly read the following excerpts concerning discovering and pursuing your purpose from my new book entitled ‘The Highest Level of Greatness’.
1. What I found out in my conversations concerning purpose
2. The four grand truth about purpose
3. My conversation with Ken about purpose-oriented lifestyle
4. About my little life and the path I have followed in the discovery and pursuit of my purpose

III. Purpose-oriented organization
An organization is purpose-oriented when:
• The founders/leaders know their individual purpose.
• The organization has a unique purpose/mission.
• The organization’s motive for its formation is not just making profits, rather, a very strong cause bigger than just making money.
• It hires key team members who share its purpose and promote to key leadership positions those who are loyal to the mission.
• The organization’s brand directly reflects the mission of the organization.
• The organization’s culture serves its purpose.
• Key stakeholders, partners, and alliances commonly share the purpose of the organization.
• The main thing of the organization directly contributes toward the advancement of the mission of the organization.
• All portfolios, programs, and projects directly contribute toward the fulfillment of the mission get top priority in terms of time and resources.

All those who attained purpose-oriented greatness either formed an organization (association, business, team, etc.) or joined a purpose-oriented organization. Either way, the organization was solely dedicated to the realization of its unique mission. It had purpose-oriented leaders and hired people who shared its purpose. Mahatma Gandhi, who knew the power of establishing and running a purpose-oriented organization, said: “A small body of determined spirits fired by an unquenchable faith in their mission can alter the course of history.” No wonder why he altered the course of history.

Purpose-oriented employees, fulfilled at work
It is not just the top leader (s) gets fulfilled from forming and running a purpose-oriented organization. Other leaders and team members who joined the organization since they shared its purpose (mission/cause) are purpose-conscious. They too find fulfillment from their work and participation.

Let me share with you some statistics:
A 2015 research by Imperative disclosed that purpose-oriented employees are more likely to have a 20% longer expected tenure, and 65 % more likely to experience a high level of fulfillment in their work.

Deloitte’s 2014 survey “Found that focusing on purpose rather than profits builds business confidence and drives investment.” The same survey conducted in 2013 found out that “91% of respondents (executives and employees) who said their company had a strong sense of purpose also said their company had a history of strong financial performance.”

Organizations that articulated their purpose well and streamlined everything along their purpose succeeded more than those which failed to do so. A purpose-oriented organization has strong competitive advantages. It attracts loyal customers and fans who share its purpose. That is why Simon Sinek- the author of ‘Start With Why’, said: “People don’t buy what you do. They buy why you do it.”

My conversation with Ken about purpose-oriented lifestyle (excerpt)

Ken vowed to discover his WHY
…The full benefits of purpose impressed Ken. He vowed to answer the question of “Why” for both his life and business. Though I was glad that we had come a long way, I decided to take our conversation to the next level. I emphasized that we cannot attain purpose-oriented greatness from just discovering and pursuing our purpose unless we lead a purpose-oriented lifestyle.

Making purpose the fulcrum
Ken jumped in. “I fully understand your definition of purpose and began appreciating its benefits. Nonetheless, you keep on saying purpose-oriented lifestyle. Do you mind elaborating?” “Sorry.” I apologized for not defining the term before I used it. I then explained, “Purpose-oriented lifestyle is attained when everything we do is aligned with our purpose. When our life, relationships, organization (s), and leadership are brought in line with our purpose. When our purpose becomes the fulcrum.”

Purpose-oriented are supper purpose conscious
“How can I tell when I become purpose-oriented?” Ken inquired. “Purpose-oriented people use their purpose as a filter. Before they allow anything into their life/organization, or before they jump into anything worthwhile, they make sure that it aligns with their purpose. They use their purpose/mission as a measuring stick. Simply put, purpose-oriented people are super purpose conscious. When you become sensitive and use your purpose as a decisive factor before involving in any major task, then, you can tell that you began a purpose-oriented lifestyle.”

Ken immediately understood what I was trying to communicate. He recapped, “If I understand you correctly, everything someone does must be in line with his purpose in life to become a purpose-oriented person.” “Correct,” I agreed…

A few discovered their purpose early in life
“By the way,” I continued, “Only a few people found out their unique purpose at the early stage of their life. These individuals aligned everything they did with their purpose. They:

  • Attended a school (s) that equipped them to pursue their purpose,
  • Grabbed jobs and opportunities that provided them some opportunities in the pursuit of their purpose,
  • Formed relationships and alliances with people who shared their cause,
  • Established businesses and organizations that contributed to pursue and fulfill their purpose, and
  • Took leadership initiatives based on their purpose and passion.”

“These individuals must be lucky. I never met anyone like that in my life. It’s almost impossible to have such a clean start.” Ken concluded. I agreed with him that very few began this rewarding journey with a clean start. I conceded, “Unfortunately, the majority of us need to make lots of shifts before we begin leading a purpose-oriented lifestyle.”

Few are leading a purpose-oriented life
I further noted, “Yes, it is hard to lead a purpose-oriented lifestyle. However, once someone discovers his purpose, it becomes natural for that person to trim those things in his life that don’t add value to the accomplishment of his purpose. Not only that, he actively and proactively looks for relationships and opportunities that align with his purpose. He only takes leadership initiatives that contribute, directly or indirectly, toward the fulfillment of his purpose.”

Ken interjected, “Still these are minorities.” I admitted that the overwhelming majority is far away from leading this kind of a lifestyle. “For many- myself included, it takes years, and in some cases decades. But, it’s doable. I encourage you to focus on yourself, and what you can do. Begin small scale. Start from limiting what you add to your life and business. For those things that have already got into your space, trimming can wait. Hold on your scissors for now.” Ken laughed loudly. And, I joined him…

Why a few attained envious greatness and changed the world?

Have you ever asked yourself “Why a few achieved greatness and changed the world while billions have come and gone without even leaving the slightest clue that they have ever been here on this planet?” I’ve studied the great ones for more than two decades. It was easy to discover that out of billions of people; we only have had a few great ones in every generation. This is regardless of everybody, whether they would like to admit or not, wanting to be great. Unfortunately, only a few attained true greatness because the few great ones did what the mass avoids doing. I discovered that those few who achieved envious greatness due to these 6 Ds:

  1. Detested mediocrity.
  2. Declared their freedom, at least, within.
  3. Dared to leave their comfort zone.
  4. Despised playing it safe.
  5. Dived into the unknown to live up to their full potential.
  6. Defied fear and stepped into their greatness boldly.

How many of the Ds have you embraced thus far? Which ones you haven’t yet, and why? What is keeping you at bay from tapping into your greatness within? What is preventing you from stepping into your birthright of greatness?

The above is taken from my upcoming book, which will be published very soon. Stay tuned! Believe that you’re a greatness material. Be persuaded that, within you, there is greatness and unlimited potential. If you just believe that, you’re stepping into your greatness away.

If you haven’t yet, vow today to leave the world around you better than you found it.

Adopt the 6Ds discussed in this excerpt and join those who are world changers. You have what it takes within…
